Our Top 5 Fashion Week Trends Translated

Fashion Week always serves up plenty of inspiration for new outfit ideas. But why stop there? You can apply the latest runway fashions to your home, too. From statement-making prints to fun color combinations, we’;ve put our favorite looks to the test. Follow suit and you can be a fashion maven in your own home.

Peplum is a short, flared ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse or dress. We saw all three looks in New York, from Rodarte to Jason Wu and Vera Wang. We loved how the designers used the detail to add a touch of volume on wearable silhouettes without going overboard.

Our Check Panel with Valance brings the glam look to any room in your home. Much like the moderate peplum ruffle seen on runwaysmost popular housewarming gifts, our dressy French pleats add a little extra interest to the panel. An added bonus: we saw lots of gingham check on the runways, too!

Tribal and Safari Prints

Some of our favorite looks were a little on the wild side. The zebra is the latest safari animal to take up with our always-a-staple leopard print. Michael Kors, Proenza Schouler and Peter Som all featured zebra prints. In other shows, we noticed very cool graphic tribal prints making their way down the runway, including an off-the-shoulder number at BCBG Max Azria.

Our Zebra Woven Fabric by the Yard is totally neutral, making it easy to incorporate this safari animal into your home without too much noise. Use it on throw pillows or an upholstered stool.? If you love the look of tribal prints, our Jenima Rug delivers with a fun Suzani pattern in a variety of subtle colors.

Whimsical Bird Prints

Conversational prints have been in style for seasons now, but we almost took flight with delight when we saw so many bird prints. Jill Stuart went pastel while Marc by Marc Jacobs showed bright, abstract birds. Carolina Herrera took a more sophisticated approach on a shirt dress.

Our flax cotton blend Aviary Brown Fabric by the Yard is so versatile and wonderfully neutral, you can use it anywhere. We used the bird motif to upholster our Louis Oval Back Chair and as a panel in our Dominique Cabinets. This is a pattern you’;ll never tire of.

Lots and lots of layering is a key look. We saw cropped jackets over long shirts, long dresses over lean pants and everything in-between. Nicholas K kicked off New York Fashion Week with lots of draped and layered neutrals. We saw the look all week, including at Richard Chai Love, who brilliantly mixed soft silhouettes and unexpected patterns.

You can pile it on at home, too. Drape throws in the living room and layer bedding in the bedroom. We’;ve been playing with layers on our Terrific Tables. We draped our Travers Throw over a neutral tablecloth for added warmth and softness in the bedroom.

Color Blocking

The runways were awash in color, from pastels to electrifying brights. While many designers went head-to-toe tonal, our favorite ensembles featured cheerful color blocking, as seen at J. Mendel, Tommy Hilfiger andSophie Theallet.

The easiest way to achieve this bold look at home is with throw pillows. Line up solid throws in saturated hues against a neutral sofa—and repeat. Stick to three colors max to avoid creating a rainbow. Try our combination of?Rust, Azure?and Brass Sunbrella fabrics for a chic instant update.

Wow y'all… This is kind of embarrassing. We made these DIY pipe shelves almost 2 years ago for our dining room and I am just now getting around to posting the tutorial. Sorry about that (I'm hanging my head in shame). But, sooooo many of you have asked about the DIY pipe shelves tutorial is finally here. Better late than never, right?
